Hi there
Seeing as the Audi Q2 is built upon the same platform as the Golf 7, new Q3, and VW Tiguan, it should have similar levels of reliability to these cars. In truth, these models are really too new to really cast an accurate verdict on their ultimate reliability, but the data as it is at the moment suggests that the 7-speed dual-clutch (dry clutch) transmission would be the only weakness in its armour. Fortunately, most of the Q2s on the used-car market will still have their OEM maintenance plan in action (Audi Freeway Plan), so transmission repairs will in most cases be on Audi's account. For extra peace of mind, you might want to consider financing mechanical breakdown insurance along with the vehicle - just in case something major goes wrong, you'll at least be covered for that.
As for alternatives, might we interest you in a new Suzuki Vitara 1.4T GLX automatic instead? It will comfortably slip in below your budget limits, has similar performance to the Audi Q2, is a lot more practical, cheaper to insure, and is likely to be lighter on fuel as well. The bonus is that it will come with a fresh warranty and service plan, as well as that "new-car smell".
Hope this helps!
