The value of a crashed car will greatly increase if you can dismantle the wreck yourself, and sell off the parts individually - for instance, the engine/gearbox combination could be worth R 15 000 or more, while other items like switches, seats and trim panels can add many more thousands to that value. In contrast, the complete wreck will likely struggle to net more than R 15 000 in total from a breaker's yard (if that much). It follows that it will make a lot more sense to strip the remains of the car of useful (valuable) items and sell them individually.
