Hi there
Unless you're prepared to spend the (most likely extravagant) money charged by a BMW dealership, your best bet would be to scour the breaker's yards to find a replacement control unit. Bemow Spares (http://www.bemowspares.co.za) should be able to point you in the right direction.
Just remember that the replacement ECU will have to be coded with the appropriate software for your vehicle and its internal systems. Many key replacement specialists should be able to help you with that, or else the car will have to go to the dealership for an ECU coding procedure.
