Hi there!
We have some great news for you: the older Fortuners (2013-2015) are exactly the same as the very first ones, which have a well-deserved reputation for being almost indestructible. Just stick to one of the D-4D variants, and you'll be assured of many years of dependable service.
They're fairly inexpensive to repair, with great aftersales (dealership and non-OEM backup), and there are no known design flaws which might cause you grief later on, either. We'd suggest you have any car in which you're interested checked out at an independent evaluation centre (such as DEKRA or the AA), just to verify that there are no hidden issues or accident damage in the vehicle's history. But if they give you the all-clear, you can buy with peace in your heart.
Hope this helps!
