Hi there
Congrats on your great job!
Your R5500 car allowance will allow you to buy something in the R250 000 to R300 000 range - unfortunately, that petrol card won't pay for higher instalments, but it may pay for higher maintenance.
That kind of budget can put you behind the wheel of a low-mileage Fiesta ST, with some warranty and service plan left over. The only new 2.0-litre Golf is the GTI, and that's quite far outside the price range we're looking at - unless you decide to accept a balloon payment , extra-long loan term, or plan to lease the car (that's a bad idea, by the way). And in this choice, the Golf will be the smarter option anyway, from a maintenance point of view.
You will certainly be able to get finance for such a purchase, as well as insurance. You might want to aim slightly lower, though - a Fiesta, Golf 1.2TSI or maybe even a certified pre-owned but older BMW 1-Series can also tickle your fancy?
Happy hunting!
