Hello there
The Isuzu 4JH1-T engine used an electronic injection system in our market, which means that there are many possible causes for your symptoms.
We'd suggest a few checks (which can only be performed by a diesel specialist, as these injection system runs on extremely high pressures:
- Fuel filter condition
- Low-pressure fuel system (between the tank and the diesel pump)
- High-pressure fuel supply (between the pump and the injectors)
(these are all basic necessities for a diesel engine to work correctly)
- Injector condition - our fuel is extremely harsh on injectors, and if the vehicle was fed fuel with too many impurities, it can lead to severe injector degeneration.
- The crankshaft position sensor - if this one malfunctions, it could lead to all manner of strange symptoms from the engine.
- Main crankshaft pulley: if this pulley setup (and the cam drive system behind it) gets mis-timed due to wear or poor-quality repair work, it will have a massive effect on the performance of your vehicle.
We CANNOT ever propose to make an accurate assessment and diagnosis of your bakkie's ailment without a physical inspection, so we'd strongly recommend that you seek out advice from a reputable diesel specialist as soon as possible, as a malfunction of this nature may cause serious internal engine damage is left unchecked. If you've been to to a diesel specialist already, and they couldn't diagnose the problem, you should seek out a second opinion from another specialist. Your engine's life could depend on it.
Hope this helps!
