Hello there
Volkswagen recommends that you use the highest available octane fuel in their vehicles. While no harm will come to your car if you were to use 93 Unleaded petrol, it would be better to use 95 whenever you can find it (and don't worry, you can mix different grades of petrol without any ill effects). Using 95 octane fuel even up in Gauteng will most likely see a slight improvement in performance, and may reduce your fuel consumption to the point where the extra cost of using 95 will be offset by fuel savings. Get a log book, and monitor your fuel consumption over a few tanks to see if this is actually the case. If you don't see any fuel savings, you might as well go back to using 93 again. Of course, you can only get 95 at the coast, so that makes that choice a lot easier...
Hope this helps!
