Hello there
The Opel Grandland X is a very appealing vehicle, so it's easy to understand why you'd be interested in one. But let's look at your questions before determining whether it would be a good buy.
The Opel brand was sold off to Peugeot not very long ago, which means that it's now a division of the French brand, rather than of General Motors. This doesn't really have any bearing on the local distributors, as the Williams Hunt Group was appointed to be the local distributors. So if you have had a positive experience with Williams Hunt in the past, that is likely to continue in the future as well.
Now onto the Grandland X: it's based upon a Peugeot platform, and uses Peugeot running gear as well. Ironically, this model was planned and developed long before the Peugeot take-over, but it still retains a strong Opel identity in spite of its somewhat muddled identity. As for the build quality, at first impression it's on par with the current Corsa and Astra, and the cabin's design and layout is very much in the style and execution of modern Opels as well. Mechanically, it should also prove fairly robust, as the Peugeot engines are generally pretty durable if the prescribed maintenance procedures are adhered to.
In short, there's nothing keeping you from buying and enjoying a Grandland X, unless you have concerns regarding the French platform and drivetrain. The Kia Sportage is another lovely vehicle, but it is very expensive for what it is. You will find however probably find better build quality with a new VW Tiguan, while the Mazda CX-5 is incredibly well-engineered and lovely to drive (with the bigger engines). You really can't go wrong with any of them, so the best suggestion would be to go test drive them all and decide which one you like best.
Hope this helps!
