Hi there
Warranties, service plans and maintenance plans are completely different things.
Your understanding of a warranty is pretty much accurate: if a product fails or has a defect due to material- or manufacturing quality, the manufacturer or retailer is obliged to replace or repair that product.
Service plans relate only to routine servicing of cars, according to the manufacturer's specifications. This is unrelated to the warranty, which still functions as described above, regardless of the service plan condition. The inverse applies as well: regardless of the warranty condition, if the car is still covered under an active service plan, scheduled maintenance will be covered by the plan.
Maintenance plans are another matter entirely: they cover all the running costs of a car except fuel and tyres. This includes wear-and-tear items as well as scheduled maintenance costs. The warranty terms still apply independently, in the same way as it does when it relates to service plans.
Hope this helps!
