Hi there,
The car would be listed according to the year of first registration - if you are the first registered owner, and you bought and registered it in 2017, it will be listed as a 2017 model when you decide to sell the car. However, if it was first registered in 2016, even as a demo model, it will be recognised as a 2016 model in future.
Your question related to consumption highlights a common issue in the marketplace: manufacturers are allowed to quote consumption figures obtained under European Union test conditions, which do not relate to real-world fuel consumption at all. Those overly optimistic figures often can't be replicated under normal driving conditions, leaving the new owners confused and angry, and feeling like they've been lied to. Your experience is not an isolated instance, nor is it limited to Kia's products.
That said, 11.1 l/100 km is rather steep - yet still considered acceptable if your driving conditions consist of only stop-and-go traffic. If you drive on free-flowing urban roads, that should at least drop below the 10 l/100 km mark. Our best advice is to keep an eye on the consumption while trying some different driving styles. Firstly, avoid applying full throttle under any circumstance, as that uses a lot of fuel. Then try combining light throttle applications with using the brakes as little as possible - light throttle applications and conserving energy is the best way to reduced your consumption. Maybe also try a different route with better traffic flow, even if it is slightly longer in distance: it's the stop-and-go style which is chasing your consumption so far.
Then also remember that an engine at 1800-odd km is not really run in yet - have a look again at the 5000 km mark, because that's when it should be loosened up properly.
Hope this helps,
