Although both options are covered legally under the CPA (Consumer Protection Act) it is a lot less likely that you will pick up problems with a purchase from a dealership. The dealership is required by law to comply with certain legal requirements, so it offers more peace of mind. Should you be unhappy with your purchase, it will be a lot easier to sort things out with a dealership than trying to chase down a private seller. A dealership will also handle most of the tricky paperwork that can often become confusing.
