Stunning new Volkswagen sportscar unveiled
Volkswagen has unveiled a stunning new sportscar at the 2009 Detroit Motor Show – the Volkswagen Concept BlueSport.
The frugal new VW Concept BlueSport is an Audi TT-baiting roadster with performance to match – 0-62mph takes just 6.6 seconds and flat out, the baby ‘Dub will hit 140mph thanks to its 180bhp engine.

But the Concept BlueSport’s trump card is its ultra-frugal diesel engine. Powering the new roadster is a 2-litre TDi engine which emits just 113g/km of CO2 – putting it into tax band C (£30) – and will return up to 66mpg on the combined cycle.

This is thanks to a lightweight construction – the Concept BlueSport weighs less than 1,200kgs and features an automatic start-stop system as seen on BMWs.
Volkswagen claims this ‘Eco’ mode helps deliver greater fuel savings in city driving.
But performance fans are also catered for, as the lightweight rear-wheel-drive roadster comes fitted with VW’s famous semi-autmatic ‘DSG’ gearbox, claimed to be “the most economical and agile transmission system in the world”.
We tested this transmission in the new Scirocco, and found it to work “sensationally”.
The BlueSport features clear VW styling, and inside the new roadster features a touchscreen communication centre, as well as single-piece leather sports seats made from lightweight materials.
Chief designer Walter de Silva said the Concept BlueSport “is the symbiosis of outstanding technology and timeless Volkswagen design.
“Its styling is clear and is reduced to the essentials, the car body has a lean and linear structure.”
